Back to Canada – and It’s About Time

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

I have yet to visit Canada this year and that is a travesty. It’s a miracle that the earth is still spinning on its axis. Fortunately, I intend to rectify this situation and set the universe a-right by trekking off to Toronto this long, holiday weekend for a family wedding. It’s the third of three matrimonial ceremonies that I’ve worked into my schedule this wedding season. So far, each of the first two weddings has had epic significance for my life and I expect nothing less from the third. Perhaps when I get back, I’ll write about why in a wedding trilogy wrapup.

Frankly, I’m really looking forward to this wedding if only because I’ve never met the groom and have only met the bride once in my lifetime…maybe. Not sure. I think we were about ten. Did I mention that we’re ostensibly related?

Yeah, we are tight.

How I got invited to this wedding I have no idea. Nevertheless, it’s a chance to go to Canada and I couldn’t pass it up, especially since circumstances conspired against my going to Vancouver in June for my family’s annual pilgrimmage there. Painful. So when Toronto presented itself, I couldn’t resist.

Perhaps I’ll visit some of the places we didn’t get to on Road Trip III, like the Museum of Contraception and/or the Hockey Hall of Fame. Or maybe I’ll hit all six of Toronto’s Chinatowns in a single day, nay a single frenzied boba tea-fueled midnight-to-dawn rampage. Or maybe I’ll try to cajole all of Canada into celebrating July 4th and American Independence with me. And maybe I’ll start an international incident and be forever banned from the country.

I hope not, but we’ll see what happens…
